    Do you -
  • Want to cope better?...
  • Want to take better care of yourself?...
  • Want a compassionate approach to your own sense of well-being?...
  • Want to explore how to live a life that holds meaning for you?

My practice is dedicated to helping you gain insights into the difficulties you face in your life whilst building ground inside to support yourself in any given situation. Providing Stress management, Counselling and Personal well-being sessions allows me to use a number of skills within my work.

    Who am I?

My name is Shona Fraser. I am married, with two young children and I live just north of Inverness. I have been a practising counsellor in the Inverness area for the past 7 years. I have also extended my training to include Stress management and Personal Well-being sessions. I have also recently qualified and am able to see children aged 8 and over, and adolescents, in my work. Prior to this I was a GP in the Highlands for many years. As a counsellor I am committed to providing counselling, stress management and personal well-being sessions in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.

    Who do I work with?

I work with adults and children (aged 8 and over) on an open-ended basis, or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling them to enhance their lives and to live it more fully. Sessions (whether you attend for counselling, stress management or personal well-being) are tailored to the individual and may include relaxation and personal awareness exercises, some meditative practice and counselling where appropriate. Sessions where I see children are more geared towards delivering the same ideas, but within a framework that the child can respond and relate to.

In my work as a counsellor I am experienced in helping clients who have have been struggling with:
  • Stress
  • Relationships
  • Panic Attacks
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Redundancy
  • Depression
  • Addiction
  • Abuse
  • Epileptic and non-epileptic seizures

I use my counselling skills, stress management training and personal well-being exercises as and when they are required. I am skilled at using the breadth and depth of my experience to address the specific difficulties of each individual client.

    What Training have I had?

My counsellor training is broad based and includes of many well-known counselling approaches (CBT and Person Centred to name a couple). As well as this I am also trained in Stress management and Personal Well-being and am able to tailor your sessions to include exercises along these lines if appropriate. This enables me to approach a wide range of difficulties that affect people in their lives. The above list is only an example of just some of the problematic situations that I have worked with.

My training has also included ways of reaching and supporting children who are struggling, and reacting, to difficulties in their lives. As with adults I approach each child where they are at and will tailor each session to provide support and a safe place where they can be themselves, whilst working gently with them and the difficulties they are experiencing.

    Where do I work?

My practice is located in Muir of Ord, within easy reach of the southern and central Highlands and Ross-shire.

"Presence is the whole atmosphere of a person or thing. Presence is more than the way a person walks, looks or speaks. It is more than the shape of a tree or the colour of a stone. It is a blend of all these aspects but it is mainly the atmosphere of spirit that is behind them all and comes through them." Taken from 'Eternal Echoes, Exploring Our Hunger to Belong' by John O'Donohue p 75
